The first footage of the giant crossover looks like a hell of a good time.
Justice League is a movie with something to prove. Even though Batman v Superman,Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman will all come before its November 2017 release date,Justice League is where Warner Bros.' slate of DC movies go Full Marvel, blossoming into a giant cinematic universe vying to get us excited at the very mention of future release dates. What's more, it's Zack Snyder's direct follow-up the famously dour Batman v Superman, one that he swears will be much more fun this time around. You know what, though? He might be right.
At least that's what the first footage of Justice League seems to suggest. Screened in at San Diego Comic-Con's famous Hall H, the clip isn't so much a proper trailer but a montage of scenes mostly focused on Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne approaching Dothraki Thor Aquaman and The Flash, asking them each to join his superhero party club. Also, "Icky Thump," by The White Stripes is playing, which might be Justice League trying too hard, but it works well enough.
A few notes:
- Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash is going to steal this movie.
- Bruce Wayne dresses like a real-life Scrooge McDuck and it's great.
- "I'm real when it's useful" is a pretty great and subtly funny Batman line, and it has us hoping for more Batjokes.
- Man, this movie is going to try so hard to convince us that Aquaman is cool.
